Grants for Window and Door Replacements

As a Trustmark-registered installer, Trade Windows is able to carry out window and door replacements under the Home Upgrade Grant scheme. For eligible households, the work can be completed free of charge.

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)

The Home Upgrade Grant is a government funding scheme. It can support the full cost of installing certain energy-efficiency measures. This includes replacing old, single glazed windows with new double-glazed windows, and replacing external wooden doors with more modern, energy efficient alternatives.

In most cases, HUG funding can only be claimed by households with an annual income of less than £31,000, or by an individual in receipt of a means-tested benefit. Other conditions and funding limits apply to applications by landlords.

HUG Funding in Lancashire

In Lancashire, the delivery of HUG-funded home improvements is being coordinated by Cosy Homes in Lancashire (CHIL), which represents 14 of the county’s local authorities. In March 2023, the UK Government awarded the CHIL consortium £41 million for HUG grant funding. The scheme started on 1st April 2023 and will run until the end of March 2025.

An important feature of the HUG funding in Lancashire is that properties in certain postcodes are eligible for support regardless of household income. A list of nearly 14,000 eligible postcodes can be found here. (Link to PDF.)

For more details of the Lancashire scheme, including answers to frequently asked questions, please visit the CHIL website or contact the managing agent, Rhea projects. (enquiries@rheaprojects.co.uk.)

You can submit a grant funding application here on the CHIL website.

Requirements

The grant may be claimed by home-owners, by landlords or by tenants (provided that they have their landlord’s permission). However, there are some important conditions. To qualify:
  • The home must not have gas central heating as the main source of heating.
  • The property must have an EPC rating of D, E, F or G.
  • The work must be undertaken by a Trustmark-registered installer such as ourselves.
  • The old glazing must be single-glazed. (HUG funding cannot be used to replace existing double glazing.)
  • Any external door that is being replaced must be made of wood.

HUG Funding and Trustmark

Trustmark is the UK’s only government-endorsed quality scheme covering improvements carried out in and around the home.  It aims to raise standards across the industry and to improve the protection offered to homeowners when having work done.

To ensure that grant money is used effectively, the government requires that only Trustmark-registered installers should be able to deliver publicly-funded work. Trade Windows is one such installer and, as such, we have to show that we continue to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and customer service.

If you would like us to carry out grant-funded door or window replacements on your home, you can begin the process in one of two ways:

  • Complete a funding application via CHIL / Rhea projects and say that you would like us to handle the installation; or
  • Contact us directly. We will then explain the process, answer any questions and provide all the advice you need.
