Double-glazed window and door replacements, multi-storey residential blocks

Project: Double-glazed window and door replacements, multi-storey residential blocks

Products: uPVC double-glazed windows and doors

Introduction:

Although much of our work concerns domestic installations, we’re certainly very familiar with delivering large-scale projects for trade clients. A project in Bristol provides a good example.

Here, we were called upon to supply and install replacement uPVC windows and doors for a number of multi-storey residential blocks, which would also be upgraded through the installation of an external wall insulation system.

The first of these was Little Cross House on Phipps Street, a 12-storey tower block. The other was a series of smaller blocks on Ledbury Road. The client had carried out thermographic surveys of the buildings and these clearly showed that excessive amounts of heat were escaping through the windows and doors. The project sought to replace them and, in this way, to enable the buildings to retain more heat. This, in turn, would help residents to cut their energy bills and reduce their properties’ carbon emissions.

The Project:

Staff from Trade Windows Preston liaised with the client to agree product specifications, delivery times and the installation schedule. The work began as planned and progressed steadily, despite unusually wet weather.

Over the course of the project, we supplied and installed 373 replacement windows and 81 replacement doors for the properties on Ledbury Road, which included a mix of flats and maisonettes. Additionally, we provided 663 windows and 147 doors for 148 flats in Little Cross House.

Client Review:

“The purpose of the project was to create better living conditions for the tenants and to help them face lower fuel bills by bringing the properties to a rating of EPC band C or better. We also wanted to improve the overall external look of the property, and to improve the standard above Building Regulations for all new windows and doors. The work also helped to improve fire standards and acoustic standards.

“Another aspect of the work was security. The project has improved the door and window locks, raising them above current expectations for enhanced security.

“We chose Trade Windows Preston because, historically, we knew that it was capable of manufacturing, fitting, running and manging schemes of this nature. It has a good reputation for workmanship, quality and aftercare. This was important because the project also included a requirement for fully rotating windows, which we placed as a special order.”
